Pittsburgh Switch Site / Data Center

The secure network switch site resides in a Multi-story windowless building constructed of concrete and masonry. The building is designed to withstand major climatic events (Hurricanes, Tornado's, Thunderstorms) and unauthorized access necessary to ensure the continuity of switching services and protection of the sensitive electronic equipment. The total footprint is 6,500 square feet, inclusive of office space. At present, 2,000 square feet of space is available for office growth or network center expansion.

Bandwidth Capability – Currently there are five carriers with a footprint in this site. They are AT&T, Verizon Business, Global Capacity, Verizon Wireless and Qwest. They all have fiber coming into this site. Verizon has an electrical hand-off at DS3 level. In addition to the carriers on site, there is also conduit available should the need arise to accept additional cicuits. The conduit is located within a 6’ x 6’ plenum from the first floor to the tenth floor.
Power – The site is currently served by Duquesne Light. The main is protected by a TVSS

Generator – There is currently a Cummins / Onan 400 kw generator. It has a 500 gal. Diesel fuel tank. Preventative maintenance is performed quarterly with annual done by the vendor. It is controlled by an Onan transfer switch and monitored at the site.

Battery Plant – There are three strings of GNB 100A29 batteries. Preventative maintenance was performed annually. Readings were recorded monthly to ensure stability of the plant. The current plant is capable of maintaining power at the site for approximately 7-8 hours. The batteries are supplied by a Lorain Vortex 200 amp rectifier power plant.

HVAC’s – Three Liebert air handling units which are 15 tons each, and one Liebert 5 ton unit, for 65 total tons of cooling.
Preventative maintenance is performed quarterly.

Fire System – Is a Viking Total pack, Pre-action cross zone wet system. The system is monitored by Bldg. ADT.
Preventative maintenance is performed quarterly by Simplex.
